Zero waste bathroom routine

 

After a long night of sleep or a good workout, it's always great to revitalize and cleanse yourself to prepare for the day. Here are some zero waste swaps for your bathroom routine if you’d like to keep things simple, as well as some additional suggestions below.

All products, descriptions and details will also be below for your reference. Do note that there are some items not included in this routine (safety razor and compostable floss for example) because I didn't happen to use them today.

  • Plaine products shampoo and conditioner

    • Natural shampoo that comes in refillable and recyclable aluminum bottle

    • Great alternative if shampoo bars don’t work for you

    • Plaine products offers a package return and refill program

  • Handmade soap bar

    • Can typically find unpackaged or simply wrapped in paper

  • Loofah

    • Loofahs are simply dried out squash, and are completely natural and compostable

    • Great alternative to plastic sponge or exfoliator

  • Pumice stone

    • A natural pumice stone is your answer to scrubbing off dead skin cells, especially on the feet

    • Rejuvenate and clean stone by boiling in water

  • Wooden hairbrush

    • Completely compostable at end of life compared to a traditional plastic hairbrush

  • Tweezerman tweezers

    • Accurate and well made tweezers that will definitely last for years to come

  • Bamboo toothbrush

    • An easy swap if you're new to zero waste

    • The toothbrush shown is from MABLE, a San Francisco based company which uses a portion of their profits to educate students on zero waste in the Bay Area

  • Face oil

    • From the brand Oil + Water, which also has a package take back program

  • DIY lip balm and body butter

  • Safety razor

  • Silk floss

    • Floss comes in a glass and metal vial, which is recyclable

    • Can purchase refills without the excess packaging

    • Floss is biodegradable as silk is natural

    • Vegan option
