Declutter my home with me
It's about time that I went through and did a deep clean of our home, seeing what we could declutter and organize in the process. Perhaps this video will inspire you to get up on your feet and organize with me!
As someone who tries their best to live and more simple and sustainable lifestyle, decluttering can be tricky and overwhelming, especially when you want to declutter responsibly without producing too much waste. I thought I’d bring you along a few small decluttering sessions throughout my home, to show you that taking one to two hours is enough time to sift through some things and make a good dent! You’ll also be able to find out what I decluttered below, as well as what I plan to do with them in order to reduce waste.
Let me know in the comments if you have any questions through your decluttering as well, but I hope this first introductory video gives you a few ideas of where to start, as well as a few organization tips!
What I decluttered
In today’s decluttering session, I’m decluttering from my storage closet and the living room bookshelf. Here are my recommendations for what to do if you run into similar items.
Books and magazines
I have a few books that we’re not planning to use, and some magazines that can be recycled
Books (unless they’re new textbooks) can be difficult to sell, so try gifting to someone who will actually read them before donating - note to self to opt for more e-books in the future
Things to return
Sometimes the closet hides a few items from our friends that we’ve been meaning to give back - make sure they head back to their owners
Electronics
We plan on selling a modem and a camera microphone we are no longer using, and will gift a graphic calculator to a youth student at church
Tech gadgets can usually retain some value, as long as you take good care of them, otherwise should be properly recycled
Donations and recyclables
I’m planning to donate if I cannot gift a perfectly good desk lamp we aren’t using, as well as a hose hook I can’t return
Greeting and wedding cards, packaging materials, lightbulbs and batteries will be sorted for recycling or compost
